It is believed that the term “panic” derives from the Greek god Pan, god of the wild, shepherds, flocks, and rustic music in greek mythology. Pan was often depicted as a half-human, half-goat figure who roamed the forests and mountains, playing his panpipes. He had the power to induce a sudden, irrational fear in humans and animals, especially in lonely or desolate areas. This type of fear was described as “panikós” (panic), named after him.
